Vein Removal Procedures

Spider Veins Treatment:

One great choice of treatment for spider veins, on the face or the legs, is RF Vein Removal.

What is RF vein Removal ?

RF vein Removal uses very low levels of radiofrequency energy to remove skin tags and eliminate unwanted vascular blemishes such as broken capillaries, spider veins, cherry angiomas, and other small red dots or patches on the skin. It is different to laser treatment as this technology generally uses much less energy to damage the veins.

How is the vein removal procedure done?

Initial intake form is completed by patients, Dr Ray will evaluate the patient. He would discuss the choice of treatment and other alternatives which may be considered so patient is informed well and can then review and sign the consent form.

A topical anesthetic cream is first applied. Once numb, a fine tipped sterile probe is placed on the surface of the blemish. The skin is not penetrated. Low level RF and DC current is passed through the probe to the vessel. The blood in the tiny vessel is clotted or coagulated and stops flowing.

With proper “post” treatment care the vessel is naturally absorbed into the surrounding tissue and typically within one to four weeks will disappear. Expect some scabbing over the treatment site. This is normal and expected and it is an indication that the treatment is effective.

Does vein removal hurt?

Everyone has different pain threshold. Overall there is a ‘pinprick’ sensation that can be felt. This is lessened to a significant degree with the application of topical anesthetic.

How long does the vein removal procedure take?

Although applying topical anesthetics is an option and some may want to go through the treatment with no numbing application. Dr. ray prefers everyone to have the numbing cream and uses BLT, which is a combination of three different agents to assure the benefit of the topical anesthesia. After 20-30 minutes, the treatment starts. Dr Ray performs the procedure himself. It may take 10-20 minutes.

post treatment care:

We would advise patients not to scratch, disturb the treated vessels for twenty-four hours. Any trauma could cause renewed blood flow and the vessel will not dry up and absorb. It is normal to see the spots darker and is a good sign that the vessel was properly treated. Topical moisturizer cream and sunscreen is also recommended.

How long is recovery?

It is recommended that you avoid sun exposure of the treated area for 1-2 weeks to allow the skin to heal after your RF vein Removal treatment. High SPF Sunscreen may be worn during this time. Some patients may notice some scabbing or blistering that will heal within a week or so.  It will take anywhere up to 4 weeks for healing to occur. Darker spots may last for a couple of moths even though the veins are totally disappeared.

How long does RF vein Removal last?

RF vein Removal treatments are normally permanent, though you may develop vascular blemishes in other areas.

What are the RF vein Removal risks?

RF vein Removal does not penetrate the skin nor introduces any chemicals. There is minimal skin reaction and because of the low treatment energy used, the dermis is not affected and scarring or other major reactions are extremely rare.
